Spring Update

Hello Troop 7!

What an exciting and active spring!

Many congratulations and thanks are in order–First, I want to thank Justin for his year of being our SPL.  He did a fantastic job.  Second, I want to congratulate Will for being elected our new SPL.  It was a good race between two fine candidates.  And last, I want to congratulate our three nominees, Adam, Benjamin, and Brian, for getting elected into the Order of the Arrow.  I will also be nominating an adult  from our troop to join them.

Our next trip is Silversides on Friday, April 17th.  It looks like it will be well attended.  We will be sleeping on the Silversides Submarine, followed by jumping at Sky Zone on Saturday.  What an interesting combination–sleeping underwater, then soaring high.  Many Webelos from a local pack will be joining us.  This is a great opportunity to connect with this pack.

May’s trip will be over Memorial Day Weekend, which is our much- anticipated biking and campout.

Looking forward to an exciting spring!

Mr. Chettleburgh

Meeting Tonight

Hello Troop 7,

There seems to be some confusion about tonight’s meeting.
Tonight is a regular troop meeting, where you will be electing your merit badges for summer camp.  We also will be updating the troop about our weekend ski trip.
Next week,  the 23rd, will be the PLC.  The following week, the 30th, will be our Order of the Arrow elections.

Ski Trip: March 13-15

As requested by our PLC on Monday, our ski trip has been rescheduled for Friday, March 13th to Sunday, March 15th.  This gives us a bit more time for planning, and will allow our older leadership to join us.

At our Monday meeting, I will be giving back checks, or applying them to this ski trip if you are going again.  Please plan on bringing your permission slip and payment on Monday, March 2nd.

Ski Trip is Coming Up

Hello Troop 7,

Our ski trip is just around the corner.   We will do planning at our normal troop meeting on Monday, March 2nd.
So here is what I need you to do now–
  • We would like to know who is going by Wednesday, February 25th, so that I can ensure that we have enough adults/drivers.  Please note that this is considered a new trip–new permission forms, new payment (if necessary).  So even if you were signed up for the February trip, we need to know again if you are going.
  • Bring the permission slip and payment to our March 2nd troop meeting.
  • If you are renting skis/snowboards/helmets, get fit at Sun and Snow this week. If your were fit prior for our February trip, call them at 663-9515 and request that they add your file from before to our new troop folder.

Summer Camp

Here’s something warmer to think about: Boy Scout Resident Camp.  We are booked for Gerber Scout Reservation the week of June 21-27.  We have 20 spots reserved for boys.

Gerber offers quite a few Eagle-required badges, so this may give older scouts a chance to finish up several of those.  Scouts can choose up to 5 merit badges to work on.  They also have the Eagle Quest program where younger scouts can spend the morning completing most of the requirements for tenderfoot, second class, and first class.  We will have merit badge signups at one of the March meetings.

Cost will be $300.  (Scholarships are available, see  the scoutmaster).  We need to pay a $150 deposit per scout by March 2.  Second payment will be due end of April.

We need at least 5 adults to attend resident camp.  Troop 7 pays your cost.  We’ve had two parents split the week if you can’t take a whole week off work.  I know some dads who have been going for several years might like a year off, so if there’s a way you can help out, please let me know.  They have several adult training programs available.  Last year several dads were able to get some bike riding in while at camp and enjoyed COPE for adults.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Ski Trip Rescheduled

Hello Troop 7,

Good news!  Our Ski Trip has been rescheduled for Friday, March 6th to Sunday, March 8th.  Again, we will be staying at Wilderness State Park in a wood-heated cabin, and skiing two of the largest slopes that the lower peninsula can offer–Boyne Highlands (552 vertical feet) and Nubs Nob (427 vertical feet).   Both resorts offer a variety of slopes for all levels, beginner to expert.  We will be eating breakfasts at the cabin, picnic lunches at the resort, and possibly a Saturday dinner at a nearby restaurant.

Mark your calendars, hope for warmer weather, and stay tuned for further details.
