Winter Update

Hello Troop 7,

Following is the update on our troop from winter break to current.
Scoutmaster, Troop 7

Troop 7 Winter Update

Membership

This winter, we are having a great year with recruiting new members.  We have had 4 new Webelos crossover into Troop 7, and we are expecting 4 additional Webelos in the next month.  We also had one new Scout join us from Troop 131 (which folded this year).

We currently have 28 active Scouts, soon to be 32 Scouts.  We had two Scouts age out as Eagles this winter.

Recruiting will still be important for us, since we will have 4 Scouts aging out this summer and fall.  However, we have good contacts with several local packs, plan to place Scouts as den chiefs, and hope to have continued enrollment from these packs.

Eagle Projects

We have had two Scouts finish their Eagle projects since my Fall report—

  1. Building handicapped-accessible picnic tables for a children’s hospital.
  2. Designing and placing trail markers at Scarlett Mitchell Preserve.

Service

  • We participated in Scout Sunday on February 7, handing out programs to the members of First Presbyterian, showing our presence, and thanking them for their continued support.
  • Our next service project will be on March 26, helping Pittsfield Township with their annual Easter Egg Hunt.

Activities

January — we planned on having ski nights to prepare for our February ski trip; however, weather and school finals prevented us from doing so.

February —  we had 13 boys ski Caberfae Peaks and stay at Center Lake Camp.  The trip helped the younger Scouts get to know and bond with the older Scouts.  In addition, this was the first time skiing for three of the Scouts.  The troop arranged lessons for them, and they all went home feeling successful.  The boys’ comments at the subsequent meeting included rave reviews about the camp, skiing, and the experience.

Future Activities

March — Hiking the Waterloo-Pinckney Trail

April — Campout, possibly biking the Kal-Haven Trail or challenging another troop to Capture the Flag

May — Whitewater Rafting on the New River, WV

June  — Summer Camp

Scout Sunday

Hello Troop 7,

Sunday, February 7 will be Scout Sunday at First Presbyterian.

We will greet people and pass out the Sunday bulletin prior to the 9:30 and 11:00 service. We will then participate in the service where we will thank the congregation for their continued support for another year.  After the service of your choosing, you are done.

Please come in full uniform (scout pants, neckerchief, and uniform).

Ski Night This Friday

Hello Troop 7,

The weather is looking good for a Friday night Mt Brighton trip.  Several of the older Scouts (who don’t have school that day) will be going up early.
If you are interested in joining them Friday night, and need transportation, please let me know.  We will set up a meeting location.
Thanks,
Scoutmaster
